All Ontario Children’s Aid Societies are required to consider using mediation could help resolve any issue related to a child with whose family the Society is working.
A roster of mediators with specialized training has been established to provide Child Protection mediation. The Family Group Conferencing mediation process, using a form of a circle, is also being used to resolve issues.
Child Protection Mediation may be used at any time during the life of an open child protection case. Some examples of topics addressed include:
- Parent-teen conflict
- Custody and access
- Reintegration of children in care
- Adoption plans
The process is similar to other forms of family mediation.
