Description A solid, understandable and engaging overview of Ontario family law, this course is for mental health professionals, paralegals, educators and others who wish to know the basics of family law. It is designed to provide family law training required by Ontario’s Attorney General for parenting coordinators and family arbitrators who are not lawyers. It includes a roster of excellent speakers. Topics include:

  • The difference between federal and provincial jurisdiction and why this is important in family law
  • How the law has changed for anyone providing family arbitrators and how this impacts your work
  • Legislation and case law dealing with:
  • parenting rights and obligations after separation
  • property division
  • child and spousal support
  • wills, estates and death of a party
  • marriage and separation agreements
  • basic income tax issues affecting separating spouses
  • bankruptcy of a separated spouse
