Avagene is a senior family lawyer and mediator. She has worked in the family law field since her call to the Ontario Bar in 2005. In addition to her work at Riverdale, Avagene practices litigation at her firm Skervin Law in Mississauga.
Fluently bilingual in French and English, Avagene helps clients at all stages of their separation process negotiate workable agreements. Her years of litigation experience help her clients reach settlements that are better for them than the alternative of going to court.
Avagene’s expertise in financial disputes allows her to offer clients a knowledgeable sounding board for tentative settlement proposals.
Avagene holds a Bachelor of Laws degree (Honours) and a Bachelor of Arts degree in French (Honours) as well as a French Business Certificate issued by the Chambre of Commerce and Industry of Paris.
In addition to her work with Riverdale, Avagene provides her services to parties as an on-site mediator at Toronto’s Superior Court of Justice and the two Ontario Courts of Justice, guiding the parties to mutually agreeable settlements whenever possible.
Avagene serves as a Dispute Resolution Officer with the Superior Court of Justice in Kitchener Ontario, and is a member of Ontario’s Family Law Limited Scope Services Project. She leads the Advanced Family Mediation course at Riverdale Mediation, and coaches in the York University Certificate in Family Mediation program.
She has served as chair of the 2021 Annual Conference of the Family Dispute Resolution Institute of Ontario, and presented at the Chartered Business Valuators Institute in 2021.
