Course Policies

Online Registration Process

If you are asked to register with the Site, you will be required to set up a username and password, which you will establish through the Site registration process. You are responsible for maintaining the confidentiality of the password and account, and are responsible for all activities that occur under your password or account. You must notify Riverdale Mediation immediately of any unauthorized use of your password or account or any other breach of security, and to ensure that you exit from your account at the end of each session. Riverdale Mediation is not liable for any loss or damage arising from your failure to protect your password or account information.

Photo Release (Consent to Film/Photographs)

We reserve the right to use any photographs and/or video content taken by us during this event. By registering for our training program(s), you hereby acknowledge and agree that Riverdale Mediation Ltd. may photograph and/or videotape you during our training, as well as use this media content for future educational and promotional activities/materials, without further notification or any compensation to you. Those who register acknowledge and agree to waive any right to inspect or approve future educational and promotional materials that may include photographs and/or video content of you. Cancellation Policy

1. Individual courses:

(a)  Participants whose cancellation request is received more than 14 days before the start date of the training will be charged an administration fee equal to 15% of the overall course fee, with the balance of their payment refunded.

(b)  For cancellation requests received less than 14 days before the start date of the training, all refunds will be at our discretion considering our time and transaction costs including administrative expenses, payment processing fees, and training material costs.

(c)  Refund requests received on or after the start of the course, or after access to training materials has been granted, will not be accommodated.

(d)  Refunds will be processed within 30 business days from the time of the request.

We reserve the right to change program content, speakers and locations without notice. We reserve the right to cancel any course and will provide a 100% refund in such circumstances.

We will not charge, nor refund amounts less than $10 (not including HST).

2. Course Packages:

(a) Registrants whose cancellation request is received more than 14 days before the start date of the first course in the package will be charged an administration fee of 15% of the early bird cost of the first course, and 5% of the remainder of the course package fee to cover processing costs, with the balance of their payment refunded.

(b) For cancellation requests received less than 14 days before the start date of a course in the package, refunds for that course will be in our discretion considering our time and transaction costs including administrative expenses, payment processing fees, and training materials costs. The fees paid for the balance of the course package will be refunded in full less 5% to cover processing costs.

(c) Refund requests received on or after the start of a course, or after access to training materials has been granted, will not be accommodated for that course. The fees paid for the balance of the course package will be refunded in accordance with (b) above.

Terms and Conditions

A. Students must be personally visible on camera and have their cameras turned on for all live tutorial or webinar trainings, so that we can confirm attendance and participation.

B. Students shall not permit any parties who have not registered to have access to any part of a course.

C. Students shall not record, transcribe, screen shot or otherwise copy any part of the course materials without prior written consent. Unauthorized recording, audito or video, of any part of our courses is strictly prohibited.

D. Students shall not share, broadcast, post, or otherwise dissimenate our course materials with anyone else and may make only a single copy of course materials (not including recordings) for their personal use.

E. Students take our courses at their own risk and we assume no liability for a student’s responses to any of the lectures, speakers or materials.

F. We use Zoom webinar technology which includes a live chat feature. Students are invited to chat, during the live webinar protons of the course, with each other and with the lecturer, either privately or publicly.

G. All students undertake, by virtue of their registration, to treat other students, staff, lecturers and coaches with dignity and respect. Harassment, bigotry, hateful expressions and violence will not be tolerated and will result in the immediate expulsion of the student. Any student experiencing behaviours that feel threatening, harassing or disrespectful based on gender, gender identity, ancestry, race, religion, or Indigenous status has a duty to report them to the instructor immediately.

H. Although we monitor the public chats that take place during live webinar-based learning, we will not monitor private chats. It is the responsibility of the student to report any communications that feel threatening, harassing or disrespectful based on any of the above factors.

I. This is an adult learning environment. We encourage full expression of ideas and concerns, and tolerate a wide range of ideas, including those that may be offensive to some. We take no responsibility for views and opinions expressed by students, instructors and coaches that are reasonably held and not in violation of the law.

J. We (Riverdale Mediation) have adopted the following Statement of Principles which we apply to our work as teachers, as well as FDR professionals:

1. Preamble:

Human rights legislation is afforded quasi-Constitutional status by the Supreme Court of Canada. It is of such import that under the Law Society Rules of Professional Conduct (for lawyers) and the Paralegal Rules of Conduct, licensees of the Law Society of Upper Canada have a special duty to respect human rights in their dealings others.

2. Principles:

To help achieve the objectives of valuing equality and enhancing diversity and inclusion, we have adopted this Statement of Principles:

(a) No Discrimination or Harassment

  1. We are aware that under the Ontario Human Rights Code every person has the right to be free from discrimination and harassment in employment.
  2. We acknowledge our obligation not to discriminate against, nor harass, any person on the basis of the grounds under the Human Rights Code with respect to the employment of others, or in professional dealings with other licensees.
  3. We acknowledge our obligation not to tolerate, condone, or ignore any form of Human Rights Code-based harassment or discrimination in professional dealings with other licensees or any other person.
  4. We acknowledge that the right to be free from discrimination and harassment applies to everyone at our workplace: clients, associates, students, assistants or other employees.

(b) Promote Diversity and Inclusion

To promote diversity and inclusion we agree to:

  1. Review, understand and abide by any and all of workplace policies that encourage diversity and inclusion on Human Rights Code or other grounds;
  2. Encourage a culture of inclusion and diversity at my legal workplace, in order to help attract and retain the best talent and better serve my clients’ needs;

(c) Reconciliation

We stand by the following:

  1. A commitment to advance reconciliation;
  2. An acknowledgment of the importance of understanding that Canada is home to three distinct legal orders: Common, Civil and Indigenous; and
  3. A recognition of the diversity of the Ontario public, which includes communities of First Nations, Inuit and Métis peoples.
